Introduction to the ICEM-A/P

 

 ICEM Asia Pacific Conference was held in Phuket, Thailand, on November 11-12, 1997 and Asia Pacific Regional Organisation (ICEM-A/P) was set up in accordance with the rules that was approved by the ICEM Executive Committee in Cairns, Australia, in 1997.

Brother Kouchiyama was elected as a Chairperson of ICEM-A/P, Bro. Maitland as Vice-Chairperson, Mr. Yosuke Ito as auditor and the regional office was located in Seoul, Korea. The Conference adopted its resolution to focus on trade union rights campaign and plans for next two years.

To implement its priority policy of 'networking' of affiliates for union building works, ICEM-A/P launched Internet Home Page and began quarterly newsletter for the main purpose of exchange of information data. Also, research networking by sub-regions and industrial sectors are being organised first in energy and pharmaceutical sector.

ICEM-A/P, as a regional organisation of Brussel headquartered ICEM, is formed of 64 union organisations from 15 countries in the Asia and Pacific region. ICEM-A/P also has working relations with unions in Vietnam, Indonesia, China, Nepal, Papua New Guinea.
